Requirements to Receive the Qualification
The nominal duration of the course has been determined from the sum of the nominal duration of the modules, where nominal duration is the anticipated hours of supervised learning or training. However, this is not to construe that the progress is to be based on a time served arrangement rather the principles and practices of competency based learning are to be applied.
Nominal duration and course structure for Certificate I in Horticulture
Nominal duration for the course is six (6) months full time. A total of six (6) units of competency are required to attain a Level I outcome.
Nominal duration and course structure for Certificate II in Horticulture
Nominal duration for the course is twelve (12) months full time. A total of seventeen (17) units of competency are required to attain a Level II outcome.
Nominal duration and course structure for Certificate III in Horticulture (RTF30103/RTF30303/RTF30403/RTF30503/RTF30603/RTF30703)
Nominal duration for the course is twenty-four (24) months for RTF30103 and thirty-six (36) months for all other level III qualifications. A total of (16) units of competency are required to attain a level III outcome.
Assessments
Assessments will be conducted utilising the following methods:
- Written Assessment
- Verbal questioning
- Observation of practical task
- Supplementary evidence including, referee report, photographic evidence, log book, workbook activities
Issuance of Award

All participants who successfully obtain all of the competencies will receive an award. The qualification is recognised nationally and is recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Those participants who complete only individual modules shall receive a Statement of Attainment acknowledging the competencies that have been attained.

Support Services
Students have access to student support. Staff are able to assist with a variety of career information and advice. Resources are also available- please consult your course coordinator.
Articulation Arrangements
Once competencies are obtained, a student may advance to the higher level qualification through either additional study or at the end of a level 2 or level 3 training.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry age for Traineeships/Apprenticeships is 15 years. Trainees/Apprentices need to be able to read, comprehend and discuss printed information in English, write simple statements, recognise numbers and perform basic numeric calculations.

An exception to the above age limit may be considered in the event of a student completing a school based traineeship/apprenticeship and is given clearance by the appropriate authorities (i.e. DET and QSA)

Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is where you may have completed units or a course with another Registered Training Organisation and it is relevant and/or able to be used for your current and anticipated study. Please note that Smart City is committed to applying credit transfer to qualifications/units completed at other training organisations.
